The Dances

The Dances

The dances taught at your Arthur Murray Studios are categorized as either Smooth or Rhythm. The Smooth Dances are Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot and Viennese Waltz. The Rhythm dances are Swing, Hustle, Cha-Cha, Samba, Rumba, Bolero and Mambo. Other dances like the West Coast Swing, Kick Swing, Merengue and Jive are also taught at most studios. Here are just a few of the dances we teach.

Bolero The bolero is a dance of beauty and romance. The images are reflected in the graceful, though strongly shaped patterns, while the slower speed of the music enhances communication between partners.
Foxtrot The foxtrot is a symphony of delightful movement and beautiful lines that enable the dancer to blend these elements to form a dance which captures the beauty of ballroom dancing.
Tango All the authenticity of the Argentine Tango plus the modern movements and lines of today are encompassed in the Tango. The romantic and dramatic overtones of Tango are highlighted by the stalking actions and musical phrasing featured in these figures.
Waltz Fluid movement, contrast of gentle and syncopated rotation and precision of lines combine to make Waltz a dance of delight, giving your dance repertoire the feel and poise of a master.
Samba The pulsating rhythms of Brazilian Carnival are the inspiration of the Samba of today. You will recognize the influence on the syncopated patterns, poses and sharp foot actions which comprise the Samba.
Rumba The Rumba portrays the rituals of Cuban and Caribbean courtship. The masculinity of the suitor and the femininity of the betrothed are captured in the man's dominant posture and the lady's flirtatious gestures and subtle poses. The liberal application of Cuban Motion further enhances the Latin American image.
Mambo The Mambo features fast kicks, quick twists and spins and challenging break actions which, when combined with the pulsating rhythm of the music, merge to form the mania that is instantly recognizable and an essential ingredient to the mambo devotee.
Swing The All-American background and fun-filled atmosphere of this dance are brought to life in figures of the Swing. It is all easily adaptable to fast or slow music, and its many moods and spontaneity make the swing a must for any dancer.
Cha Cha This tremendously popular Latin dance adds spice to the nightclub, party or ballroom. Dancers are guaranteed enjoyment from the rhythmic patterns and contrasting movements captured in the Cha Cha. Its cheeky and flair filled actions are not to be missed.
